Boat Storage Options - Pros and Cons
Boat storage comes in many shapes and sizes with plenty of features to choose from. From storing your boat in your back yard, to having it on a rack at a marina, we will review some of the benefits of every option out there. These helpful articles will dive into the pros and cons of each option and help you to make the right decision for your situation. Boats are the pinnacle of pleasure; when they are properly maintained. However, they can quickly become a nightmare without proper care. Check out some of these great tips and tricks. The only thing you should have to worry about is having fun on the water.
Storing Your Boat at Home
Of course, your cheapest option is to keep your boat at home in your yard. This option allows you to save the cost of storing it somewhere else but leaves it vulnerable. It also exposes you to criticism from your neighbors or actions by your HOA. As such, it may be the cheapest but it certainly isn't the best.
Outdoor Storage Lots
An outdoor storage lot is appealing to many of us who want to save some money. While it is inexpensive, it really only offers protection from your HOA. Your boat is fully exposed to the elements as well as wildlife. There is also little to no true security on these open lots.
Covered Storage
Covered storage is a great middle-ground option for storing your boat. While it is protected from direct sunlight, rain, and hail with the cover it is not protected from wildlife, temperatures, and potential vandalism.
Enclosed Storage
Now we are talking about actual security for your boat. An enclosed unit allows you to store your boat out of the weather and away from prying eyes. Typically, facilities that offer enclosed storage have better security than the previous options. Unfortunately, there is still no protection from extreme temperatures. In some cases enclosed units can actually trap heat making it exponentially worse for your boat. Most marinas fall into this category with their storage options.
Climate-Controlled Enclosed Unit
These are the top-of-the-line storage facilities for storing your boat. You are offered total protection from the world around you. Imagine a place where you can store your boat for an extended period of time without worrying about having to wash it, de-winterize it, or perform repairs before taking it out!
